Hang on, I'm writing this down: "A V1 cut is a rudder maneuver..." Any more gems like that would be great and I'm sure we'd love to incorporate them in our training curriculum. Although the majority of posters here hate Flex Instructors, I don't think you'll get a lot of agreement that quality of instruction or instructors here is lacking. Again, sounds sort of sour grape-ish.
I know of one isolated incident. That's it. Never heard of any other Flex or LCA/SCAs having a lick of problems. Again, you suck at crosswind landings. Since I'm saying it, it must be true...

Alright.
First off. A V1 cut is a rudder manuever. Lift is a function of Lift coefficient times dynamic pressure times wing area. It is also affected by the Arc Cosign of the angle of sweep. As the angle of sweep approaches 0 the lift is maximized. As the angle of sweep increases lift is minimized. If rudder input is less than required then the aircraft will bank in the direction of insufficient rudder. The heading will also show that you are off heading in the direction of the bank (its a crab). Pilots feel they are off runway heading and apply aileron to return to runway heading. What you actually have is insuffucuent rudder input which causes a bank in the direction of the failed engine. A little more rudder input puts the nose on the runway heading and equalizes the angle of sweep on both wings. Based on that the bank angle is reduced to 0 and ailerons are no longer required. Basic fundemental airmanship taught at other airlines.
We all know of the B757 fiasco at DAL. Thats 1. I also heard through the grapevine that we had 2 of our other initial guys bust their checks at Boeing based on lack of fundemental airmanship. Guess who their instructor was? A retired purple instructor. Let me caveat this with I got this second hand from someone I used to fly with. I heard they did get through on the second attempt.
You say I suck at crosswind landings. If I did it would be because I was never taught fundemental airmanship by our instructors. Thanks for the support.
Look. I am not trying to single anyone out. We have a problem here that needs to get solved NOW. We hire the exact same pilots as everyone else. We fly the same type of aircraft as everyone else. We crash. They don't. The only difference I see between us and them is flight training. I have been at other airlines and training here is different. We excell at procedural training but lack in fundmenetal airmanship training.
The main point of my post is not necessarily to lay blame but to get guys talking. Whats our problem?
