An IT degree would be a much better idea than an aviation degree so I would suggest you go for that as you already have experience in the field.
As far as not wanting to stay on campus. You need to look out for schools that require you to stay on campus the first year (like mine) because you won't have a choice unless you get some sort of waiver.
Some schools also have some sort of off campus housing for their students, but I am guessing you already have a house so that wouldn't be an option for you I would guess.
