The value of a datum is how well it clarifies underlying data. The underlying data here can manifest itself in many many many ways, but it all comes back to the supreme clarifying fact.
I honestly believe that the supreme problem in the flying business is that for some reason masses of people just HAVE TO FLY. Whatever drives them, fancy cockpits, lots of gauges to look at, moving at 500 mph, women, it doesn't matter. The fact is, the problems is this industry will always exist due to the fact that most who enter are just "dying" (I choose my words wisely) to fly an airplane. The regionals capitalize on this. There is a double standard at play here because most posters on this board (and most regional airline pilots) will b**** about about pay until their throats are sore, yet continue to strap themselves in and fly the airplane. As long as pilots (for whatever personal reasons - food on table, kids, loans, etc) continue to do the job for peanuts, the problem will exist.
If one is going to threaten to quit - DO IT!, don't just talk about it.
