GECAS gave Republic a 5 year lease. So much for that excuse

We'll see if its enough and my bet is it is or will be darn close to whatever Boeing and Airbus come up with, but that might not be enough for DAL. I need to subscribe to Aviation Week, they probably have already explained all of this to the nth degree.
Aviation Week's news is that there has been no news. There are several engine designs promising 7 to 21% improved fuel burn, but the airframe manufacturers are not interested (unless they fit in the nacelles of the current engines - Boeing has been rolling out CFM56 improvements and I'm sure AirBus does the same no cost to them changes)

Boeing is neck deep in the 787, 747-8, Poseidon and on/off tanker fight. The one part of their company that runs easily, reliably and profitably is the 737 program. They are working through more than 1,000 orders and will increase production with the Navy's version. The last thing Boeing wants is to upset the 737 gravy train with talk of a new airplane.

AirBus is much the same with their narrow body programme. They just got the Chinese building them too.

This year the web boards have been a better source than Aviation Leak. Just think, you have thousands of readers who review the news and post what you'll want to read here!
