If the industry raised the pay instead of lowering standards when they couldn't fill the classes we would be in a better position. Remember there is never a pilot shortage, only a shortage of pilots willing to take a given job for a given payscale. The airlines will never voluntarily raise their standards, that is why I would love to see them forced to raise standards by new FAA regs. I seriously doubt it will ever happen though.
