Airlines are for profit. Profit for everyone but the workers of the airlines. Everyone that we rely to operate (airplane manufacturers, tire companies, oil companies, parts companies, food companies at the airport, etc) make a ton of money off of us. The only people that do not make a lot of money, are the ones that are employed at the non-executive management level and below.
