There are advantages and disadvantages to Fred's business model. One of the big advantages is avoiding the teamsters. If his business model is forced to change, I am sure he and we will survive but the business model will change. Now that we know how the IPA rank and file feel, I would like to see if the mechanics in Seattle think he is bluffing.
Personally, I don't think he's bluffiing. I think he'll cancel it if he doesn't get his way. As for the UPS vs. FDX drift, it's more like Teamsters vs. FDX. UPS management certainly doesn't give a rat's a** about the Teamsters welfare, they only care about gaining an edge on FDX - and rightly so. I also think FDX will win the public relations battle. Most people cringe when they hear "Teamsters" and "Jimmy Hoffa." I wouldn't expect a whole lot of sympathy for the teamsters from the public.
