I know you're kidding about the above first statement, because can you imagine the liability the company would heap on itself, because if you're sitting on "hotel standby" at home, it would be an "on duty" assignment, and therefore you'd be on the clock, which would mean that if you got into an accident driving in to work (after being called at O'dark thirty) the company would have to be held liable. I don't think that that's ever going to be the norm. I can envision the company asking a pilot, who wants to sit Hotel Standby at home, to sign a legal document, accepting all responsibility for anything going wrong between their home and the AOC.

Of course, I was a commuter, and therefore feel very strongly that guys should not be allowed to sit standby at home. After all, if I can't do it, why should they? However, if I lived in domicile, I'd feel very strongly that I should be allowed to sit standby at home. Go figure.
