I think one thing missing from this discussion is where did these hotel standby periods come from in the first place? I know someone mentioned ANC and Mt. Redoubt, but wasn't there a big todo about hotel standby periods being assigned to R-24 holders? I'm too junior to hold R-24, so I don't know. Is that still going on?
I'm not sure how many guys are sitting hotel STBY right now, but typically, I've been given that assignment when scheduling was anticipating contingencies. An ice storm that was forecast for Memphis, severe storms forecast to move through or during those times when the loads might require extra flights, such as Peak, Valentine's or Mother's Day.
I was always on R24 when I got the standby.
