A more likely situation is he knew one or more codeshares were going to shrink or disappear before the end of 2009 and he's hedging his bets to provide some value for RJET shareholders (which is his job)..
I think that savvy reverend would go down that path if he was between a rock and a hard place. If he is risking losing flying for a major partner and going to be stuck with the planes then sure he would go out on a limb. If UAL goes bankrupt and cuts the contract with BB then they would be up the creek and he knows it.
