I was not all that impressed with their understanding of the SCOPE issues before us.. I think that is mostly because they don't see it as a priority as many of us do.
if thats the case then they need to get educated or removed. SCOPE is about the biggest issue we have before us with the DC9's and some of the Md80's needing to be replaced. With that said, I talked with one of my reps the other day and asked him point blank about scope, His response was "NO MORE". So I know we have guys that get it, i just hope that the MEC gets it!! This issue is magnified now that we have one of our feeders acquiring 717's, E-190s, and Airbus's!!

I foresee 2012 coming around and DAL coming to us for scope relief for a number of different reasons. DC9's planned retirement, mass retirements beginning within the pilot group (65), and contract negotiations. One possibility is that they will say that with the number of retirements coming that they cant effectively staff the airline and will offer a little more money during the contract negotiations if we give up some more scope relief!! My hope is that we have people in the MEC that will/are drawing the line and let the pilot group and Mgmt know that SCOPE (our careers) arent for sale anymore. (this would be learning from previous mistakes and put an end to constant deterioration of OUR industry)

The last decade has been a disaster in our industry and with forward lookers in the MEC we can turn it around. Now is the time to learn from our previous mistakes and ensure it doesn't happen again.
