Well, no. You are suggesting a contradiction where none exists. If there are ads for contract flying, they are free for the grabbing by anyone qualified.....including my furloughed coworkers (which may or may not be interested for a number of reasons). However, if my airline is offering extra flying, the trips are
not up for grabs by my furloughed coworkers (that were obviously interested). As for the thousands of other furloughed pilots, they may or may not be interested in contract flying gigs. If they are, they are free to bid for those jobs. After all, there is a reason why it is called a
job market.
