When the dust settles you'll have a very reduced UAL merge with a slightly smaller CAL. The size of the carrier will probably be a little larger than UAL was in their glory days.
"Driver" is pretty much spot on as far as the
present facts of 'shrinkage' in way of furloughs are concerned. The current numbers speak for themselves.
CAL Furloughs....
147
vs.
UAL Furloughs....
850'ish'+?? (Any UAL guys feel free to pin a more accurate number with insider news)
There is no doubt there will more 'right sizing' before a deal is put in place if one should come about in the future. Shoot, CAL is talking about downsizing the FA ranks....could this lead to pilots as well?? Logic would say they would go hand in hand.
In Mgt's point of view, it only behooves them to slice and dice down to bare-bones minimum staffing when/and if they decide to pull the trigger with a shot-gun wedding in the future. Running an airline these days with min/or below min staffing is their Mantra as we all well know.
Bottom line.....regardless of what uniform you wear today....."pilots on the street tomorrow" sucks either way
