I see you came from Southwest...I think I can see why you are having second thoughts. Knowing how Southwest and a rare few other companies treat their employees, I think I understand. It doesn't have anything to do with MOUs, commuting, or pay scales, but it has to do with the day to day enjoyment of the job. Southwest has a very enviable corporate culture, one in which employees like coming to work and contributing to the companies success. They are made to feel like they are part of the grand plan. In that regard UPS does not compare and never will.
Many will say it doesn't matter because we are paid well (MOUs aside), as if that is a replacement for the enjoyment of the workplace. Personally if money was issue number one I never would have become a pilot; and I must agree I have never seen so many well paid, employed, yet still miserable people at one place before I came to UPS, whether it is line pilots or management types.
Having said all that, a good friend recently reminded me in a random discussion that past decisions made by me in life are mine, and I have to make due with that and take ownership of it. Likewise, your decision to leave Southwest was yours, and you have to come to terms with that. As many have already pointed out, things could be much worse. Two years ago it seemed like a no brainer to come here. Perhaps it doesn't seem like a good decision to leave a company like Southwest today, but in 5 years who knows?
You won't know if you made the right choice until the day you retire.
