Heyas,

Funny PDT story from back in the day....

They had hired a whoe SLEW of us to fill out the ranks a bit in the last part of 1993. Problem was that ALL of us had come from scheduled 135 ops, and all had been flying between 100 and 120 hours a month.

Well, low and behold, come December we all start getting close to the 1000/yr 121 limit. I bid my December schedule, then called them to let them know that I was going to time out around the 15th of the month. Hey, great, full paid vacation over Christmas!

First phase was denial: "I don't have any paperwork on this, and if I don't have paperwork, it's not a problem"...

So, I faxed them all my flight time records for the year. Problem solved...

Then I'm sitting in OAJ, waiting to go back to CLT on the 3rd day of a 3 day, around the 7th or so. They say call crew scheduling, or we're not releasing the airplane. Fine...I call scheduling and they say "we're junior manning you for tomorrow and the next day. I'm like "um, hey, you know I have a time problem, right?" "Don't know, don't care, just be there tomorrow." Me: "no probemlo".

So I get to my trip that starts on the 12th. I get to ops in EWN, and call up scheduling. "err, yea, I wanted to let you know that because you guys junior manned me the other day, I can only do the first leg of this crew (what PDT called trips)"...them "HUH? WHAT WHAT WHAT? Hold on!"

After about 10 minutes on hold, they come back "erm, you're going to fly to CLT, then FLO, back to CLT, and call us back then". Me: "err, ok".

So I go to CLT, then to FLO, then back to CLT, and call them back and say
"well, I'm at 999.7, what do you want me to do?" Them: "sigh, I guess we'll just have to punt...you can go home, here is your locator number".

Turns out a whole pile of us timed out that December, and it caused a not inconsiderable rukcus. After that, they started asking interviewees how much time they had for the year, at least for a little while.
