Although I was told "we will need to see orders", I couldn't produce them due to government beauracy. I'm still waiting for the official orders to be approved, although the work has already been completed. I've not heard anything from a supervisor nor a CP ... nor do I expect to. I agree with you, DAL is very military friendly. Sometimes, maybe a little too friendly. I know guys who blatantly abuse the system.
I understand that abusing the system MAY get you busted, and rightfully so. However, I had no option as my unit was putting their foot down and so far, DAL seems to be very cool about that.
Seeing this video got to me a little because I had no idea that we (Delta) did this.
Delta can not require you to produce orders before you leave under federal law. The do have the right to request a copy on completion of your military leave period. You are right about the abuse part. We have more then a few individuals who use military leave to mimimize the work they do at Delta and maximize the Delta pay. A example is being a international FO and putting a Mil leave day in the middle of each 5 day on call block. You can't be used if the shortest trip is 3 days long. Then the same pilot flies GS's on every X day block. Another example is dropping your 4 day Christmas trip leaving on the 24 by going into your unit and doing a paperwork drill for 4 hours in the morning when the unit is not even open that day. All this is legal under federal law and there is little Delta can do about it. Is sure hoses ones fellow pilots however.
