Same thing happened at DAL. That's why it became a call for the FE to call "Green Light's On" on takeoff roll. It was just an onvious system backup that came to be used. If I am not mistaken, (and this was actually before my time) there were other places for calling for/checking flap position on the checklist, and those guys still missed it. Thus the Green Light On thing...
I agree that we shouldn't get all bound up in the checklist thing. I am all for simplifying, reducing calls as long as it doesn't compromise safety. Now if we could only get management to simplify the Jepps subscription we have to carry.....
