Republic and Frontier isn't going to be a merger. F9 is going to be a wholly owned subsidiary, just like Midwest was a partially owned subsidiary until recently.

Will be interesting to see how it shakes out, since Republic has already said the Midwest rates are un-sustainable and the Midwest payrate is lower than Frontiers.

"Republic will seek to "rationalize" wages paid to the Midwest pilots and flight attendants, Bertolini said. He noted that Midwest had been seeking more than $25 million in concessions from its flight attendants and pilots before Republic made its offer to purchase Midwest.

"The reality that wages were going down, not up, is independent of Republic's intent to purchase Midwest," Bertolini said. "Whether part of Republic or not, wage levels at Midwest have been unsustainable."
