I know you and many others are ALPA apologists but ALPA has lost serious favor with the pilots it represents. At UAL we had a past history where everyone that had not crossed the picket line wore ALPA pins. With the disarray of our own leadership and that of the ALPA national leadership that acts like they are on crack we have more and more pilots not wearing the pin. Some of this comes from guys protesting one of the many issues ALPA has used against the membership vs for the membership. Age 65 is a big one and you can pick from a buffet of other items to which to harbor ire toward ALPA.

Perhaps if ALPA was actually producing results, I could somewhat understand, but this entity has become nothing more then self-interested shakedown artists and back alley muggers.
I see it as living a neighborhood with two bully's. The first bully actually gives me something for doing something, although tries to steal as much back form me as they can get and doesn't treat me all that well. The second bully shows up, promises me protection from bully #1 for my lunch money, but never seems to be there when I need him. His real speciality is lunch money collection and threats.

If I ever stop giving bully #2 my lunch money, he'll go to the first bully, inform them he's not getting his cut and demand I be beat up and thrown in the gutter. Of course, the NEW rule has gone further and that is that if I do anything not in the second bully's "best interest", then he can construe that anyway he wants and either demand more lunch money or increase the threat pressure to have me bounced by the first bully.
