That's a main point of my assertion of the ethical impropriety of the pilot termination power ALPA has awarded itself. It has nothing to do with benefitting or empowering individual pilots (or pilot groups), but is strictly a tool of control and domination enacted to empower (and enrich) ITSELF.
Bingo.
At any given time ALPA could have turned to the TWA pilots and said "Sorry guys, given the circumstances we can't represent you."
Instead they wanted the dues...and the AA pilots. The ALPA membership may soon be on the hook for $1.2B.
Think of the money that National's saved by not having to go through all the machinations of a complete Section 6 for the Eagle pilots...how many times?
