Being an outsider looking in, I still don't understand why there is this adversarial relationship with line guys vs. mgmt. Every airline has Chief Pilots, Asst Chief Pilot, Check Airmen, and Sim/Ground School Instructors. Yet there aren't many airlines where those groups of people are disliked. There may be a bad apple here or there, but for the most part they're just a necessary part of the flying business. UPS chooses to label these guys as "Management Pilots" so all of the sudden, the line pilots tell everybody to stay away from this job. (I get that not just from this thread, it seems to be the general consensus from those I've talked to)
I'm also considering the Mgmt Pilot gig, but it's hard to make a decision when I feel I'm going to be ostracized because of my title, and not for who I am.
BTW ... thanks for all the professional responses so far. Much better than some of the flame on other boards.
