Maybe UAL wants better 50 seat feed. There will always be a 50 seat market (esp at CAL), it just is changing.
After the 2008 fuel crisis. The 50 seat market is now basically dead market. Nobody wants them here anymore. (Also Dispatching them at one point they are a very inefficient when it comes to Fuel (The CRJ-200LR) especially when you have to give them holding/alternate or extra fuel for weather.
The CRJ-700ER is a much better A/C when it comes to fuel efficiency
UAL does not want 50 seaters anymore because they are losing money on them since.
