They did it to get the type rating but now that the economy tanked the company is not giving them raises and they have nowhere else to go. G-IV CAPTAINS making 50-60k?!? Say it isn't so... I know one outfit in VNY that flies G-IV's that pays their FO's around 50k, and captains are making around 85-90k... and those are probably the worst wages I've heard for G-IV crews.
