It's bad for all parts of the work force this time, not just pilots. I think that is a bit different from after 9/11 for sure. I can't even get a local hourly job so far. Apparently no one wants to hire an experienced, responsible, professional with a college degree, even to stock shelves! That whole bit recently about people "dumbing down" their applications just to get a chance at a job, I believe it.
But as I sit here watching Rick Sanchez on CNN translate the Mexican TV broadcast of the ongoing hijacking, I realize that I need to be thankful every day for what I do have, not stressed about what I don't have.
BTW, I'm one of those 6k+ guys looking for a CFI job or anything for that matter.
That is the truth, I have been on the street since janurary and have lost count of the interviews I've had that start with are you subject to recall. Then we have the 200+ apps I never heard a word on, I had a HR person tell me once (she made it clear she would deny it if I said anything) that when they see you qualify for more than the jobs are paying they will not hire you because they know when things turn around you will jump ship for higher pay, so yes it is possible to be TOO QUALIFIED...it sux
