I understand your concern but that still does not justify why we should be flying 14 to 16 hours a day when scientific data has proven that pilot's are not 100% when working those kinds of hours. I think we tend to forgot that our profession is centered on safety, or at least it should be and not around day's off.
nobody is a 100% all day be it a 5 hour day or whatever you chose. performance degrades with time or can improve after "waking up" so to speak as circadian rhythms kick in. however, multiday sequences have a fatiguing effect that diminish performance as well. that said, 2 or 3 days on, for me anyway, seem to be the best. 4 days takes a greater toll regardless of hours flown. hence, I pursued aviation as a career for the time off not the love of the game. I'll take days off (less fatiguing in my experience) over day length anytime.
