Whipsawing is a favorite management trick and RAH isn't alone in facing this problem. Sky West kept their groups apart for the same reason, but they proved it works both ways. When ASA negotiated a decent contract, management had to give Sky West a similar one or face a rejuvenated effort to unionize.
Pilots are much better off working together than fighting each other. Even more so when the pilots work for the same management team.
