Braniff went under and Continental went on strike in the same time frame and introduced Frank Lorrenzo to the world (scum). Seaboard World became part of Flying Tiger and Tiger pulled back hard. Lots of little outfits just ceased to exist. The Auto companies where hanging by a thread, Chysler got loans from the government to continue ( they paid these back early and with interest by the way). I went from a four engine long range transport to a short range two engine POS for 2/3 the money and was glad to get it. Half the pilots I knew quit flying for a living , most never came back. Interest rates where close to 18% for a loan as the government tried to kill inflation.
