UPS would probably be against this because it costs more to hire extras, rather than have existing pilots fly overtime.
I agree, it wouldn't make any sense for them to hire people, pay their health insurance, etc while they drop drips. My friend at purple has been dropping trips for years now. He's an fe on the 72 and flies just enough to stay current but otherwise he drops his trips and stays home instead. He still has health insurance and his wife's business is doing well so he's just enjoying the time off and helps her out... Would like to have that option here too...
