You need the bates lite. It has a nylon shank, vice steel, so it is much lighter and will go through security. The leather ones breath a lot better than the plastic finish and probably last longer too.
But the synthetic insole will require a set of oder-eaters.
I get about two years out of mine, and I use them for military as well as flying.
