I can't speak for other places, but honestly the experience is handled very well. There will always be "that guy," but it exposes folks to bigger things than the training environment.
I agree, the G1000 STC and blackhawk would probably be cheaper, and keep an airplane that can actually "haul" people, but not sure what they are thinking. I'm sure plenty of bean-counters figured the best plan.
