I have only seen on departures where it says that you need to be able to climb X-number of feet per nm, and there is a chart that tells you what the minimum climb rate you need in order to achieve that. This just doesn't sound like a real world question, just one of those to see if you know those formulas that don't mean anything once you are flying the aircraft. Kind of like the formula to figure out many miles per minute you are flying at a certain mach speed.
