It would take years, and may cost thousands of lives for me to explain why the Airlines would want a fighter pilot. Read my other post on the numbers---i.e. in my case 2 out of 100 got to fly F-15C's---not everyone get's thru pilot training in the military and a very small number of those who do ever get to be fighter pilots. If you were hiring a pilot would you want to hire the best, or one who thought you don't have to be good---just good enough?
