That works both ways. Past personal experience has shown me that ex-airline guys that try corporate on for size aren't interested in slinging bags, ordering catering, hanging out at 4,000 ft. airports, wiping bugs off the airplane, smiling at the passengers that pay the bills, and not getting told what what you are doing tomorrow until 4pm the day before.
BTW, I stopped thinking the airlines were the "place to be" about 5 bankruptcies ago.
