things that will help,

-Airline Industry got a head start on the downturn because of 9/11 (read-cuts)
-We are 2 years into the age 65 change-when the effects start attrition will be HIGH
-world travel will pick up or begin to come back and when it does the airlines will have to add capacity in a hurry because they've over cut.
-Federally mandated Rest and training requirements coming will also add to the need of staffing (read-addition)

Our industry is in kind of a good position because after 9/11 all we did was cut cut cut while other industries had explosive growth. Those companies are having the big cuts right now where the airlines are already skimming the bottom. Combine that with the 50 seat bubble bursting we'll likely see a domestic shift in flying back to mainline. Only time will tell, we'll see

I'm cautiously optimistic

the one big unknown is if all airlines will make it through the downturn
