I love a good GoJet debate, and even more so watching other regional pilots bash them for "lowering the bar."
I don't know if any of you guys watched the congressional hearing on raising the qualification requirements for regional airline, but Prater really nailed it when he said the entire industry needs an overhaul. Lot of good will it do you to raise a bar at one regional when a Repshuttlequa will undercut you along with Mesa, Trans States, GoJet. You have 6 or so seniority lists flying for United. More than that for Delta. The flying gets shifted around based on costs, and even more so because a regional airline DOES NOT own its code or its flying, so if your costs get out of line, you'll suffer the loss of flying at some point or face concessions.
FlyASA, you ask what major airline will take you from flight instructor job. It's funny you should ask that because that leads me to believe that you are just "building time" to get to a major which is understandable. So basically, you are taking your part in a rat race to get a number at a major. Nothing wrong with that... we've all been there. You need to get your PIC time, pick up OT left and right to put some PIC hours in that logbook, and finally make some decent cash, right? This is the fundamental way of thinking of your stereotypical regional pilot in the US and therein lies the problem - your entire mindset is that of a transient employee except this is on a much bigger scale.
When that mindset changes from the rat race to a major into approaching and viewing regionals as career airlines, you will see vast improvements. Until then... enjoy the race.
