OK I won't call most greedy. However I will call someone greedy that did not participate at all, is over 60 and just picked up a 40 hour trip out of opentime. It is his contractual right to do so but it is greedy, selfish, or any other adjective you can come up with to describe someone completely out for himself with no thought of others.
Personally I have always opposed open time and would rather see it built into lines, we tried this and guys complained about the line quality, so the open time was left in the contract. The open time pick up is in the contract, the ability of the union to speak against open time is limited in the contract. We currently have a canidate for the EB who appears willing to give up retirement to keep his job and he is in the group we are trying to protect with the MOU. I can see where this would lead someone close to retirement to grab as much as they can before they go.
Do I think this person is sensitive to the current conditions, no, would I do the same , no. I think that many in their position are defending themselves against those who want to redistribute.
