I believe the frustration that exists is not based in a sense of entitlement, preference for socialism, or communism but rather, 30% feel no responsibility. There is no reason for anyone to freely contribute their earned wage or sacrifice sick-leave except responsibility to the greater-good and the appearance, at least, of a solidified union. Having written this, there is always that "10%" or 30% in this case.
We can go back to the entitlement arguement if you would like. The union initially got a less than 50% of the pilots to agree to the MOU via the survey, the union decided to proceed with it anyway, they ended up with 70% participating in some way, now people are unhappy that we didn't get 100% participation and the people who indicated they wouldn't participate in the first survey are now being skewered.
