I agree, but is it really a side job? You get time off for your reserve days so you don't end up working on all of your days off and most reserve guys are flying airplanes which should make you a better aviator. If you are doing mortgages, selling houses, or whatever else, you do that on your days off, focus on it while your flying at this job, and you are in no way increasing your skills as a pilot. Side jobs that are in no way related to aviation can become a safety issue. As a professional airline pilot you should not have to have a side job or send your wife to work in order to make more than 100K per year.
