I get tired of the "my airline is better than your's arguement." Both airlines seem to be trying to shrink to profitability right now. UAL and CAL management would both like to fly an RJ to Europe or Asia, and both our contracts suck. I show up at my job (because right now it just doesn't feel like a career), and do the best I can to make sure everyone arrives safely at their destination just like the ALPA pilots at United. If a merger ever happens I hope that both pilot groups can make it as fair as possible, and make the combined carrier the best, even when management can't.
