If memory serves (!), there were something like 11 MILLION draftees during WWII. While I'm certainly not denigrating their service AT ALL, I think it adds some much needed perspective to "the Greatest Generation."
Personally, I think the all-volunteer force RIGHT NOW (and for the past decade) is truly the GREATEST GENERATION.
These men and women are signing up knowing they'll likely go into harms way, and no one is compelling them in the least. That's truly "nut-up-or-shut-up" patriotism in action.
