I agree that to join now is a risk. But in reality you will be in the same boat as the bottom 480 or so pilots in a little over a year. The best protection we have is that flow-down.
Look a little further than the next year or two, and you will realize that to stay put is the mistake. Get liquid, and put yourself in a position to capitalize on an opportunity to better your career.
I was doing this for six year waiting for DAL to hire again. It made the transition doable with a newborn.
In the end take the chance for you and your family. There is a life outside of this career, and if you are furloughed it will give you that perspective. I would take the change if I was a 12 year CA in the top 200 at EV today. To me it is not a choice. (that is said looking at it from both sides of the fence FWIW)
