Contractually, the rules for max pickup are different between the swap board and open time. I BELIEVE if you pick up something from the swap board, you can pick up to the FAR limit as long as you do not exceed your PBS block hour limit. If you pick up from open time you are limited to what it says at the bottom of your schedule is your "max pick up." Your "max pick up" will change thoughout the month as you complete trips on your line. So if at one point you do not have enough time listed, this could change as the month progresses.
If you want to check and see if you are legal for a particular trip, go to DBMS, PCS, Swap with Pot. I think option B is the "Rules Auditor." Type in what ever trips you want to swap/drop or pick up and it will tell you if you are legal to fly that trip with the options you have given it.
