There are bunches of furloughed pilots on the street that need to be called back prior to any hiring.
Big picture, people. Mandatory retirement kicks back in in 2 years, and the mainline carriers will have THOUSANDS of retirements over the next 5-10 years! I've heard industry analysts saying that the mainline carriers could hire every captain currently working for the commuters and still not have enough.
