That would be great. Until the bad guys figure out how to hack or jam the signal.

Ground-based transmitters can be sabotaged. Satellite signals are EXTREMELY weak compared to the RF comms we are used to using in aviation...localized jamming is not too hard.

Anti-jamming methods exist, but they are cutting-edge military technology, ie classified and expensive as hell.
