Stress, working conditions might have had a factor but an approach to a landing stall is basic student pilot pre solo 101 stuff. It's very unfortunate for the pax but some times there are freak accidents, I would definitely look into colgan though if this happens again.
The guy should have not been hired given his record. For the kind of money Colgan was offering they had to look over a few things to get people int he seat. The guy tried to shortcut everything, look how it ended up. The company is to blame for that.

As part of a vastly subpar safety culture as a whole, Colgan has subpar selection, training, and checking of its pilots. They then had a crash that killed a bunch of people, and they're now trying to say its not their fault that they had an incapable crew in the front end of that airplane.

All in all, I find this whole thing completely disgusting. The attitude of money before all else, including human life, that these management teams have, along with their desire to throw absolutely everyone under the bus if something goes wrong, is incomprehensible. They should be in jail for the intentional disregard of the well being of the general population.
You are absolutely right... but just take a look how many views the next thread on "Colgan accepting apps" gets and all the yayhoo's that still are interested in a job there. Until everyone is repulsed by companies like this and the people that choose to work there it will never end.
