It's very unfortunate for the pax but some times there are freak accidents, I would definitely look into colgan though if this happens again.
This was in no way a freak accident. It was caused by negligence or incompetence take your choice. The captain may have been a great pilot and nice person but no one was flying the aircraft that night. Don't insult the victims families by calling this a freak accident, it was completely avoidable.
