Oh, that's a relief.
I guess enacting retaliatory and dangerous policies that jeopardize the safety of your employees and customers for the sake of profit isn't a big deal when it's only temporary.
What's 6 weeks of jeopardized safety between friends ?
One things for certain now (and someone might want to mention this to Colgan management). IF an incident or accident happens there during this period and people are hurt or killed, this policy will come back not only to bite them, but kill this airline.
They'll be sued out-of-business (and rightly so). My guess is no one there consulted their attorneys on the incredable liability they've just placed on themselves. Even if that incident/accident isn't fatigue related, everyone will be outing the carrier on this. Anyone who reads this directive can clearly see the fear it wil create, whether intended or not. This is a policy of intimidation and a declaration that Colgan pilots will no longer be permitted to determine their own physiology and fitness for flight as the FAR's require and this will now be determined by third parties with questionable motives.
My advice to ALL Colgan pilots is to make a copy of this directive and place it in safe care with loved ones, so that it surfaces like a turd in a punchbowl at the beginning of a party. Everyone has to make their own choices, but If it were happening to me, I would also make a declaratory statement into the CVR before every flight like , "I XXXXXXXX am operating this aircraft in an environment of intimidation and fear and believe I'm forced to endure this environment without complaint so as to maintain my employment. I am unsure how this will affect my ability to operate this aircraft, but I have no other present choice, but to continue ". I wonder if the attorneys for 3407 plaintiffs would be interested in this absurd declaration, if for no other reason then to demonstrate the reckless callousness of this management, when it comes time to argue before a jury for punitive and compensatory damages.
Absolute accountability by Colgan management this time and an irrefutable smoking gun to insure that.
