There is ten percent of the pilot group who thinks that Colgans stuff doesnt stink and are so grateful for all they have done for us in graciously not furloughing. I come across them every now and again who tell me how lucky I am to be here and how it is a great place to work.
I roll my eyes and know that I have seen the "real world" and count the days till something else comes along.
The groups who I see it from the most:
1. The guys whos parents funded all of their flight training at a pilot mill
2. The guys who paid for their type ratings here (some of them, not all)
3. The guys who lived at an outstation and did out and backs only for 10 years.
4. The single guys who upgraded on their 23rd birthdays and were hired at 19 with 400 TT and 200 ME and only a CMEL with no CFI.
5. The guys who had lucrative careers until they were 40 or so and cashed in to come here and live the dream.
6. The guys who were fired or washed out of other airlines and were hired here and are now check airmen.
7. Most of the leather jacket club. AKA...the jacket of shame.
There are more I just dont feel like typing them all. Most of us (maybe 75%) treat this place as exactly what it is...a means to an end. The only difference is that the end used to come in 3-5 years, now it is 5-7 or more.
