Aside from the 3407 ramifications, they are aware that there are plenty of pilots who could use 30K/year, health care and travel bennies vs. unemloyment, COBRA and penny-pinching to feed their families. At least it would provide some ability to elevate ones head farther above the waterline.
I'm sure they'll have a substantially higher level of quals from prospective applicants this time around.
