Yes, I was hired into the ER and the possibility of that happening sure made coming to DL that much more appealing. But I was also aware that it probably wouldn't last. While I miss the flying, I have no problem slumming it out in the Mighty Dog. My reason for coming to DL was to go work for a good company. If that means it may take a few extra years to see a wide body, so be it.
Let me guess, you are younger than age 35, or were in 07. The younger new hires who have time to enjoy NWA's greater attrition have this attitude, based on their age. The older new hires who only got pushed backwards in career expectations do not. Depends on if your career at this moment is front end loaded, or back end loaded.
Delta is a good employer, but the expectation of reaching pay parity in the second year is now pushed off until able to hold the position we had three years ago. The difference in the career earnings spreadsheet got pushed way back for some of us. It is not an opinion. This is mathematical fact. Those first ten years are important (even more so if a guy is older).
I love Delta, but don't work here because I love the airline. I work here because I get paid, as should all professional pilots. Money wise, post merger, many of us might have been better off staying put.
More information is needed about the demographics of Alaska's list to make a determination what that might mean for us.
P.S. ACL, Super, CLMP and a few others on this board are "golden" and got in at a much younger than average age and at the beginning of a little wave. Yes, they sold their investments with Madoff in early 2007 and bought gold, most of us didn't. As with all financial endeavors "your results may vary."
